Houston Claure is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia, with a courtesy appointment in Systems and Information Engineering. His research sits where human–robot interaction, human–computer interaction and artificial intelligence meet, and focuses on value alignment: computational methods and experimental platforms that help robots and AI agents understand human expectations and norms and work with people in trustworthy ways. He also studies AI safety and governance. He earned his PhD at Cornell University and was a postdoctoral researcher in computer science at Yale University before joining UVA.
