Pavel ChernyavskiyPhD

Pavel Chernyavskiy, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biostatistics, Department of Public Health Sciences, at the UVA School of Medicine, which he joined in 2021. He earned his PhD in statistics from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, then was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute and an assistant professor of statistics at the University of Wyoming. His methods research centers on correlated data, using spatial, hierarchical and Bayesian models, with applications in population health and health disparities. With emergency medicine colleagues he has studied seat belt use by pregnant motor vehicle occupants and deep learning methods for estimating injury severity from diagnosis codes.
